The first Greater China Kinesiology Conference to be held in 2016 and its eleven pre and post conference workshops will have significant symbolic implication on the trend of local or even international kinesiology development. It signifies the industry which has developed in the region for 18 years converging to meet the public. It also represents a test of innovation and cooperation among Chinese people in the field of kinesiology. The Greater China region which includes mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan nourishes one-sixth of the world population. The region’s first kinesiology meeting has already begun to attract the attention of many in the kinesiology community. Our various skills such as kinesiology marketing, knowledge management, industry code of ethics, ability to foster win-win cooperation among organizations, quality of kinesiology instructors and consultants, new ideas and thinking of Chinese kinesiologists etc., will attract the interest and recognition of global practitioners in the field.

Uniqueness of the first Greater China Kinesiology Conference

The arrangement of having a kinesiology meeting in one city and its pre and post workshops in 6 different cities in the country – North (Dalian), East (Shanghai), South (Shenzhen, Hong Kong), West (Chongqing) and middle (Zhenghzou) in three weeks’ time is recognized as a new attempt in the global kinesiology history. This arrangement means that sponsors, instructors and practitioners in various provinces and cities need to join together in promoting knowledge. Such an arrangement has seldom been attempted in any kinesiology conference anywhere in the world. In the past 40 years, a conference and its workshops have been held in the same city, and its influence seldom extends to other cities of a particular country.

Regarding theme selection, this conference puts emphasis on inspiring concern among practitioners and the public towards the needs of the society. The theme of the conference is “nurturing future pillars of the society”.

Furthermore, the conference will invite international kinesiology experts to offer balancing services to the public. This will enable some participants to experience directly and deeply the power of kinesiology balances.

In terms of cooperative arrangement, the kinesiology industry adopts a business model of multi-party cooperation in promoting knowledge. This enables the market to operate purely on the commercial principles – making it unnecessary to form a non-profit association to do the job.

Leading the trend by kinesiology based on education model and self-responsible model

Since the innovation of the clinical Applied Kinesiology of George Goodhart, D.C., Touch for Health of John Thie, D.C. for the lay people, kinesiology has already been developed for 50 years. The first Greater China Kinesiology Conference will make an initial step in exploring kinesiology techniques. It will mainly cover Touch for Health, Educational Kinesiology and Developmental Kinesiology brought to China from overseas and Qinesiology from Hong Kong, China. It will not cover other branches of kinesiology.

The achievement of the first conference will indicate whether we have the necessary types of talent, techniques and ability among organizers, instructors, practitioners, and a critical mass of kinesiology participants in the region to accommodate further varieties of kinesiology. As a faculty member of the International Kinesiology College and Educational Kinesiology Foundation, my vision is to attract the interest and attention of more people towards kinesiology in more cities in the Greater China region through this event. I believe that in time, more branches of kinesiology will be introduced, and more local kinesiologists will also have their own innovation.

Returning to the foundation – the body

Kinesiology is the science and art of muscle testing. It is also a way to enhance brain and body ability through body movements for achieving wellness and balance. It enhances body wellness, psychological balance, positive thinking, learning ability and awareness of life through bodily techniques.

The body is our foundation and the basis of physical and psychological wellness. Let us and our next generation notice ourselves at a deeper level, understanding our bodies, returning to the basics, and do our best to use kinesiology to parent future pillars of the society.
