Using Touch for Health in Helping My Students In Music School

Ms. Wang Meng (Sports Teacher, Shanghai Conservatory of Music)
Shanghai, January, 2010

I am a teacher of Rhythmic Gymnastics at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. I learnt Touch for Health Synthesis in 2009 and began my “discovery adventure” in kinesiology. Slowly, I found that I was able to help my students in resolving some of their problems when I applied Touch for Health in my work. Some interesting things happened, and I witnessed the amazing power of kinesiology. I’d like to share it here, so that others also know the positive effects.

The students studying in the Shanghai Conservatory of Music came from all over China. In the realm of music, especially in musical performance, it is one of the top schools in China. The young performers, who are usually selected among hundreds of others, are often required to challenge the apex of technical skills in performance art, and at the same time required to express artistic qualities through the music they play.

Case Study A:

Little Mercy was a top student in the performance of a Chinese folk musical string instrument called Pi Pa, or lute. She was seen as the target of training from the eyes of her teachers, because she was very good at technical skills. Little Mercy had been disturbed by a problem she faced. She said to me: “Teacher, my technical skills are good, but I always have some difficulties in expressing artistic moods and conceptions. My music teacher said that I could not experience the climax in the musical pieces.”

After talking to her, I felt that she was a bit suppressed. In discussing with her about the values that music could bring to her, she told me more about the values that could bring to her parents. For example, my mother would be satisfied, or my teacher would give me affirmations, so on and so forth. After asking her how music could bring to herself, I asked her to draw a picture and did a Touch for Health Sound Balance. Afterwards, she was able to play her music with emotional expressions. She said: “My music teacher said I could express the climax in the musical piece!”

Through this case-study, I had a deeper understanding of the applications of the Law of Five Elements in Touch for Health.

Case Study B:

Little Lin was a student in the professional study of musical performance. In one month’s time, she would be joining an assessment. If she passed, she would be able to perform for the production of a musical CD. She just selected her pieces for the assessment, and was practicing the piece in sections. However, she was not able to perform it in one full piece. When she came to me, I felt her urgency and nervousness.

I realized that she was nervous about this assessment, as I could see that she was very quick in her talking, and could not express herself very thoroughly. The hastiness in her expression also magnified her nervousness. After doing a Touch for Health Emotional Stress Release Points for Future Performance, she felt much better. After the balance, I asked her to focus on her practice, and asked her to notice how she felt different. That night, I received her phone call. She said: “Teacher, I am so happy! I could smoothly perform the whole piece! I am so excited I did not want to stop!” She then said that after she went back, she was able to perform the whole piece only after practicing it once. That was so great!

Doing case studies repeatedly helped me realize the amazing results that could be achieved by the most simple techniques.

Case Study C:

Cheng was a student of string instruments performance. She needed to practice for long hour hours every week. In a piece that she was about to perform, the requirement was to express the artistic mood in quick bowing. But Cheng was not satisfied with the way she expressed the mood – no matter how hard she tried. Through re-setting her reactive muscles, Cheng obviously improved in her performance. She said: “Teacher, I could feel I was able to make quick movements with mood and emotions.”

Touch for Health is fun and interesting! In these seemingly miracles, there are some deep theories and knowledge background waiting for me to study and to know more about.
