Balancing with Children Any Place Any Time – Photo Sharing

On a sunny day in May, our family took a ferry to an outlying island on the north-eastern side of Hong Kong — East Ping Chau. While Yu Sum (my younger son) and I took a rest on the beach and while we were enjoying the beautiful scenery, light breeze and sound of the ocean, suddenly we noticed the pebbles and rocks that lie below our feet. These rocks were brittle and were good for drawing and carving. They were good tools for balancing and so, I did a balance with Yu Sum that we both really enjoyed.

I would like to share a few pictures which show the goals and the way we celebrated the balances. These goals were positive, simple and straight forward, and beautifully demonstrated the wishes and thoughts of an eight-year-old (see images below).

Balancing is a good way to nurture positive thoughts and self-noticing skills for children, and is a tool that parents can use to communicate with their child. When the parents know how to communicate, the child is usually more than willing to participate in a balance. Through balancing, parents also learn to become good listeners and facilitators, and to let go of their judgments of their children. I invite you to enjoy balancing with your child with any tool in any place at any time.
