The Messages of a Mother: A Goal from the Heart

The Messages of a Mother: A Goal from the Heart

Both of my sons love to stay in bed even though they are awake. Each school day, in order to have the kids on time for school at 08:10, the helper or myself must start to wake them up at 06:30. Each time, they will groan and roll in bed for 20-30 more minutes before really getting up to rinse their mouths and change their clothes. It has been their habit since they were in Primary one.

One night about two weeks ago, when I was sending them to bed, my elder son Yat who was nine suddenly talked in an excited tone to my younger son Sum: “Brother, let us get out of bed tomorrow morning sharp at 06:00, okay??And then, he turned to me and said, “Mother, I’ll set the alarm clock at 06:00. If that doesn’t work, remember to wake me up!?

I was curious. “Why wake up that early??

He said, “I want to be the first pupil to get back to school to practise ping pong. I want to be admitted into the school team.

His brother agreed. He, too, was fond of ping pong.

The next morning, the two boys really got up right away when the alarm clock rang. They really succeeded to get back to school at about 07:15. Since that morning, they have accomplished their goal to be the first two pupils to arrive at school twice. And of course, they were able to get a ping pong table for practice as planned.

Though it was only a small goal, I was very happy for them. They have found an interest that invigorates them. They have learnt to set a goal from their hearts and made it happen.
