Brain Gym® for People Learning to be Free from Drugs

In October and November, I did a series of Brain Gym® training for 30 male drug-free residents on the Dawn Island Gospel Drug Rehabilitation Centre of Operation Dawn Ltd. Besides introducing the 26 Brain Gym® activities, I also shared goal-setting and balancing techniques, aiming at facilitating the participants to: 1) learn to use Brain Gym® in their daily life, 2) learn to notice their own needs, and 3) act and live with intention in their own pace. Some participants realized that there were various aspects in their lives that they could learn to improve. There were also little things that they could do to feel happier. For example, building a trail on the island, catching a big fish, sleeping well, focusing when reading or copying the Bible, speaking more loudly and clearly when communicating with others, speaking decent language (instead of foul language), sit properly (instead of shaking legs), “waking up” their brain etc. Some thought of things they could do to improve their health. Some wanted to lose weight, do more exercises, be more flexible, etc. Trust that the participants will continue to use Brain Gym® to improve their learning and health when they are staying on the rehab. programme at Dawn Island or when they return to the community afterwards.
